Establishing Mess

Over at lisajobaker.com, the fabulous Lisa hosts a weekly blog party called Five Minute Friday.

The rules are simple:

  1. She decides on a one-word writing prompt. This week it is "MESS".
  2. Bloggers everywhere set their timers for five minutes.
  3. Our pens fly....can you hear the frantic scritchety-scratch?
  4. We publish our five-minute masterpiece & share with the world.
Here's mine. Maybe you can relate!

I look around and I see......MESS

Yup. That's what it is.

My house is a mess,
the floors are cluttered,
books unshelved,
the counters piled,
the mudroom.....muddy,
laundry spilling out,
the toilet unflushed,
cupboard doors open,
the fridge unorganized,
drawers stand gaping,
in awe, I assume, at
mirrors splattered,
flights of stairs with rows of dolls,
beds unfixed,
jammies laying around,
dust gathering,
cobwebs crowning,
dust bunnies whispering,
kids faces unwashed,
diapers need changed,
I feel disheveled
my hair is a mess,
don't even ask about my daughters crown of frizz....

YET......I love...

love, love, LOVEthis mess.

This beautiful, well established mess that speaks of....

life,
home,
family,
LOVE.

  4. Kaylene, were you in your house or mine when you wrote this? ;-) These words will ring in my ears every time I look around and start to feel frustrated or weighed down by all the mess: "I love...love, love, LOVE, this mess. This beautiful, well established mess that speaks of....life, home, family, LOVE." This beautiful, well established mess ... awesome!

  6. Its so funny I am reading this right now after I just vacuumed for the first time with a new vacuum and could NOT believe how dirty my house was. And then I had to remember I needed to say thank you for the new vacuum because it was a gift and replacing the 30 year old vacuum I had. Thanks for linking up to the Bloggers Brags Pinterest Party. I've pinned your post to the Bloggers Brags Pinterest Board.

  8. Embracing the mess might be one of the hardest parts of parenting. I agree the mess means all that you wrote here but I just wish I wasn't the only one who flushed the toilet ;)

Thanks for joining the mixer again last. Hope to see you again soon.

  10. I giggled at your title and was like "Yep, got that." Thanks for sharing this archived post over at #EverydayJesus-- it reminded me that the mess of our living room/laundry/etc simply means that people are living and loving here! Have a great weekend, Kaylene!
