40 Prayers for my Husband: His Humility

"Pride goes before destruction,
a haughty spirit before a fall.
Better to be lowly in spirit
and among the oppressed
than to share plunder with the proud."
~ Proverbs 16:18-19 ~

Pride destroys a man like no other. He may feel and look good in his own eyes, but a proud heart is sure to be destroyed and disgraced. Let's pray our husband's will walk in humility, not praising himself with his own lips, always deeming others better than himself.

Prayer #36. His Humility

Father, we know You hate the proud and love the humble. You have instructed us to not think of ourselves more highly than we ought to, but to think of ourselves with sober judgment. (Romans12:3) Make my husband a man who doesn't think himself better than those around him. Give him a heart willing to honor others above himself. Let him serve others with out ulterior motives, selfish ambitions or vain conceit, but rather be humbly and graciously willing to do for others. (Phil.2:3-4)
Father, make my husband careful of the words he speaks of himself. You do not find boasting good or of any worth. (1Cor.5-6) Your word tells us that whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. (Matt.23:12) Before a man's downfall he is proud. (Pr.18:12) Do not let my husband be a man brought to destruction, shame or disgrace due to boastful words, selfish actions or a proud heart. Let other men praise him and not himself. (Pr.27:2) Let other men honor him and not himself.
Father, You have promised to supply a humble man with wealth, honor, life and wisdom. (Pr.22:4; 11:2) So develop in him a heart that is not proud and eyes that are not haughty. (Ps.131:1) Teach him, even as he sleeps, (Ps.16:7) to be obedient, ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, showing true humility to all men. (Titus3:1-2) Teach him also, to not concern himself with things that seem great and wonderful on this earth, but instead, to still and quiet his soul before You and put his hope in You both now and forevermore. (Ps.131:1-3) In Jesus' name. Amen.

"When pride comes,
then comes disgrace,
but with humility
comes wisdom."
~ Proverbs 11:2~
